As you probably know by now, Toby is a ham. When we're working a fair his job is to be cute, and he does a bang-up job of it. Of course, while he's being cute, we're trying to get a good picture and often that can be challenging. Very challenging.
Thankfully, we can usually get a picture that works. But in the meantime, we end up with some funny shots of him and of the people he's posing with.
Getting to see people as they meet a monkey lets me see a lot of smiles and hear some pretty cool stories, and it always makes me day.

Monkey Raspberries?
You never know what you're going to get when a monkey is posing for pictures.
He's really not blowing raspberries but sometimes I wonder.
When Toby sits with someone for a picture, we give him a small treat. He'll sit beside them munching, and often that creates a few funny shots.

Monkey Selfies
Selfies with Toby...you never know what you're gonna get because he's such a ham.
Toby loves cameras and phones.
He's like a kid who knows when a camera is pointed his way. But you have to be careful because he's not always gentle with them if he gets hold of them. He'll start off gentle but after awhile he'll start making noise with it...by slamming it onto whatever surface he's on. It can be instant death for the device although I've found that the LifeProof cell phone cases are also monkey proof. =)

Monkey Bath
Sometimes when we are at work with the monkeys someone will go by and make comments about them being dirty or having fleas and lice. (It makes me mad, but I keep my mouth shut. But really, if the monkey was like that, do they think I'd bring him out like that? Do they think the fair board will allow me to set up and work there? Really, sometimes people talk before they think. Other times I think they're in a hurry and don't want to stop so their kids can see a monkey up close.)
ahem.
Rant over.
Sure, some monkeys are dirty. Some monkeys do smell. Some monkeys might even have fleas or lice. *shudder*
But NOT all monkeys!
And certainly not mine!
Those of us who have monkeys and love them, take care of them, and that means they get baths.
Toby loves his bubble bath. Adores it!
A few days ago, author Karla Akins, who is also an animal lover (be sure to check out her well-loved pets!) sent me a link to this video and asked if my monkeys do this...
YES!! They do! I use baby shampoo for their bubble bath and on their fur like you see in the video and they scrub and scrub, using their hands, feet and tail. Sometimes though, I end up as wet as they do.
Maybe another day I'll show you what happens when Toby decides to he doesn't want to take a bath...
And thank you, Karla for this great video clip! Squirt is adorable!!
So tell me, do your pets like their baths?

Done with Monkeying...
Done for the season!
This last weekend was our last monkey gig on the calendar. Which isn't unusual. I've gone from an empty monkey schedule to three events within a few hours, but not this time. It's too cold for monkeys outside! And I have to admit, I'm glad to see the cold weather come this year--it means I get to stay home for awhile. =)
Here Fonzie is enjoying the frozen treat Eileen gave hime while at the St. Clair Fair, in Belleville. He LOVED it!! (thank you, Eileen!)
Wednesday, October 8th, A to Z starts! That's THIS Wednesday. And if you've asked for the links for this run of A to Z I'll be getting them to you soon.
Just didn't want you to think I'd forgotten. ;-)

Gone Working
This summer has been filled with monkey business.
I've been at fairs more than I've been home. It was a great summer but so very different than normal for me. But hey, why be normal, right? =)
Fonzie is a trooper and a great lil worker. Here he is enjoying a break while on the job...
I'm so very thankful for the work, even if it's been hard being away from home so much. God provides and I've learned more than I anticipated...more than I imagined I could've while holding a monkey's leash. I'll be telling you more about that in the months to come.
So tell me, what's something special-to-you that your pet does?

TV Time with Toby
Toby loves relaxing with the family in the evenings. Sometimes, he's a bit like a lap dog and just curls up on my lap to sleep. Other times he hops from person to person, playing and visiting, and every now and then he'll actually watch the TV for a few moments. Like here. He liked Tommy Lee Jones in Men in Black. =)
So tell me, do your pets watch TV with you and can you tell what shows they like best?

Traveling with a Monkey
Toby loves to travel and he's an excellent passenger. His favorite spot is on my lap--lounging, dozing, looking out the window, or picking his toes (hey, that's serious monkey business). If he's not napping, he likes to sit on my shoulder and hang over the back of my seat where he can see out all the windows and keep an eye on his brothers and sisters.
When we're on the road, Toby's favorite times are snack time and going through the drive through windows. He usually greets the cashier person and by the time we reach the pick up window people are running to see if there really is a monkey. =] Not only does he adore the attention but he loves cheeseburgers too. ;-)

Hard to Get
Toby likes to play hard to get with me. He'll look at me and watch me, then, as soon as I look his way, this is what he does...
He quick looks away and ignores me.
He makes me feel so special.
*eye roll*
So tell me, do you have a pet that plays hard to get with you?

Monkey Interview!
My friend, Kathy Rouser, and her cat interviewed Toby!
Cats listen so well and that must be their secret to asking such good questions. LilyBits and Toby had a fun conversation.
Please come visit with us at Kathy's Writing, Whimsy and Devotion site!

Mr. Cool
Fonzie is another monkey we get to work with. Like his namesake, Fonzie is far too cool to do many of the things Toby does, making him totally different than Toby. While Toby is my baby, Fonzie far prefers my husband, Jim. They're great buddies and work and hang out together.
Today is Jim's birthday, too!!
Happy Birthday, hon. =)
It's interesting to see the different personalities of the monkeys. Like us, they're very distinctive and unique.
Toby is playful and often silly while Fonzie is Mr. Cool. Toby will mind me but Fonzie just looks at me as if to say, "You want me to do what? For you? Dream on, crazy lady."
Needless to say, I leave Fonzie to Jim. They make a great team.

A Spoonful of Sugar
They say a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, but that might not always be true...
Toby LOVES strawberry jam. Adores it. But he's smart.
He's learned that sometimes I'll mix a little bit of medicine in his jam. This is what he thinks of it...
I had to be very persuasive to get him to eat his bread and jam, and even then he wasn't too happy with me. But he got over it and when he was done with that bit, we rewarded him with a bit of good jam.
He's such a character.

Monkey Monday
Here's what Toby thinks about being left out of the loop here...
Toby is shocked that it seems like I've forgotten him. So, he sat me down for a long talk. He can be very persuasive when he wants to be and he convinced me to let him visit on here. He wanted to be here all the time--you know how monkeys can be--but I put my foot down and told him "Maybe on Mondays."
After some dithering and toe picking, he agreed to my terms. Smart monkey.
I reminded him that I said MAYBE on Mondays. He just scrunched his nose and turned away. He knows me entirely too well.
We sealed the deal with a vanilla wafer and a hand shake.
So, here's to Monkey Mondays. A time to share pictures, information, and funnies of my boy. And maybe not just Toby but a few other monkeys I know virtually.

Really, I DID plan on doing a post on something other than monkeys for the letter M, but... oh well. I'll do it later.Monkeys love strawberry jam. And I do mean LOVE. Giving them the almost empty box of homemade strawberry freezer jam is as much for our entertainment as their enjoyment. Before the box is licked clean, they'll almost stand on their heads to get it all.
Getting pictures of monkeys is not as easy as you may think. We had to upgrade our camera to have a high speed clicker. It often takes up to 10 shots to get a decent picture.
Toby is a goof, but he's even goofier in some of the pictures I end up with of him.
Since we exhibit the monkeys, they get to see their vet on a regular basis. When they're working, they see him twice a month.
I am so very thankful for our vet Carey. He's phenomenal with animals, and isn't put out by over excited monkeys. Not only that, but the vet's office staff is great. Fonzie doesn't do well with dogs, so when there's dogs in the waiting room, the ladies point us to an exam room to wait in so Fonzie doesn't freak out and terrorize the dogs.
Being part of the family means being taking baths are a MUST. For the most part, the boys love bath time. Toby likes playing with the bubbles in his daily bath, but every now and then he's a stinker and I end up as wet as him. But hey, kids are the same way. ;-)
Nap time...
TV time is often snuggle with the family time...
Thanks for putting up with yet more pictures of monkeys. =)
So tell me, if you could have an exotic pet, what would you have?
