A year ago I was in Puerto Rico visiting my sister Cheryl. It was fantastic.

And now I'm missing it.
So, the letter G is glass. Not just any glass, though.
Sea glass.

I've collected sea glass since I was a little girl on the coast of Maine. It's one of those special things. In Maine we found it on the rocky beaches, but in Puerto Rico the sand was wonderful...

The beach where we found the sea glass...

...and the other side of that beach.
We picked glass from the beach and the surf. Some good, some not so good, all bits of treasure. Each piece had a story I wanted to hear.

At the end of the day we settled on the patio and sorted our treasure.

More whites than ambers, and more ambers than greens and blues. Much like life.

The variation in the greens remind me of the surf. So many shades, so much beauty.

But my favorite of all remains the blues.

Want to see more sea glass? Visit my sister--she has awesome pictures.

So tell me, if you were sea glass, what color would you want to be? Why?

  1. How fun that looks! So beautiful. If I were sea glass, I'd be blue glass, of course, for that's my favorite color!

  2. I've lived on the coast almost my whole life and have never found sea glass. Bummer. Shells and sand dollars yes, but no glass. I think I'd be a blue (or purple if available!)because it's the most beautiful color.

    1. J'nell, that blows my mind. All those years on the coast and never found sea glass? That's sad! LoL. But I know that it all depends on the tides.

I have a small piece of purple sea glass! It's in a shadow box beside my desk, along with other treasures from the sea. =]

  3. I've always dreamed of finding sea glass--guess I have to travel from Illinois to do that.
    I'd be blue!!!!

    1. Yes. You would definitely have to leave Illinois to find sea glass...unless you find it away from the sea, like at my house. ;-) I often carry a piece in my pocket because I love the feel of it and the memories it carries.

  4. Strange... I just read this (http://www.visitmendocino.com/business/glass-beach) yesterday! If I was sea glass, I'd want to be blue, because I'd be sad I was sea glass.

    1. Oh-my-goodness, Tom. Thanks for that link! But I must confess--I probably ought not ever visit there, not if you can't take some glass home with you! *gulp*

Sad over being sea glass? I suppose but if you see sea glass as a thing of beauty (like I do) that you might not be sad. Hmmmm. There's a life lesson in there...

  5. I love sea glass...though I've never found any on the few times I've been to the beach in Florida with my kids. I think I would green sea glass, because that's my favorite color, and it's just soothing to me. Of course, purple would be nice too...it would match my hair! ;-]

    1. LoL over matching your hair! When did you do that? I've been tempted a few times to do that pink. Might hide these grays that keep multiplying. LoL.

Finding sea glass is like finding a treasure. Never gets old. =]

  6. Oh Patty! I do this on beaches too! Love the look of sea glass and as a girl I had jars of it! The blue/greens are my favorite!

  7. The blue sea glass is my favorite. I've been collecting for a few years along the NC coast and have lots of brown and white. No blue though. Last year I even found a little green jar (like a soda pop jar) that was sea glass. I put flowers in it on my table.

I enjoyed your pictures. Thanks for sharing!

  8. So incredibly beautiful. Id be purple I think!

  9. Well, this certainly proves how land-locked I am. I'd never heard of sea glass before. Now I'm intrigued! I love the blue.
