Bee Blessed

Last week, when my parents were visiting, one of the things we did was feed the honey bees. We had a sweet mixture leftover from when we had hives of bees, and we simply poured some of the goo over rocks in a plate and set it on the deck railing. Why over rocks? Without the rocks honey bees were dying from landing in the goop. By putting rocks on the plate first and then coating them with the sweet stuff the bees could reach it without swimming.

Those little honey bees are amazing! They can tell if another bee is from their hive or not (by smell) and as we watched we noticed the bees were coming from three different directions, which explained all the bee fights going on.

My youngest son made my mom nervous with his lack of fear of the bees. In this picture he's right up close to the bees, and last week he did the same thing... with over three times as many bees around! He and my dad loved being nose-to-nose with the bees. (And I didn't think to get a picture! grrrrr)

The bees reminded me of the ants...
Go to the ant, O sluggard,
observe her ways and be wise,
which having no chief, officer or ruler,
prepares her food in the summer
and gathers her provision in the harvest.
~Proverbs 6:6-9

This is a small cluster of bees on the underside of the feed plate, and if you look closely, there's a white wasp on the plate. I don't know the correct name for the wasp, but it has white stripes and looks mean! I have a close up of his face and he looks like Darth Vader...with white stripes. LoL We had some visit last week too, so I was expecting to see one this week when I set up a rerun so I could get some pictures, but this next visitor surprised me...

This butterfly stayed near the feed plate for a looooooong time! When a honey bee got too close it would just fan its wings and the bee would move off. It was a great reminder to me of how God does this sort of thing all the time. I go into things with expectations, and God blows me away with so much more. God overwhelms me with His continual blessings. Blessings over and above what I could hope for!

And that's how my week has been: overflowing with God's blessings. Blessings that have let me know just how much He cares about me and that show me just how active and involved He is in my everyday life. There is nothing too small for God's notice and care. Nothing!

So tell me, how's your week been?

  1. Wow!! What a wonderful "God-sighting" ! I sitting here at my table watching chickadees, nuthatches, and tufted titmice "take-turns" at my feeder.
Thanks for sharing your visitors with us.

  2. The beauty of being able to see God at work even in His creations. Beautiful.

I have had a wonderful week in the Lord. Very busy work-wise, but every day that I stop and have devotions God has been overwhelming my soul with new revelations of His love and mercies.

    Blessings,
    Vickie

  3. Haven't had any bees visiting (loved the pictures but not sure I would like to be that close!) but have been enjoying God's creation from my backyard - watching a gentle breeze blowing the tree tops, clouds drifting overhead in the BLUE sky and birds flitting from tree branch to tree branch. Thank you Lord for all your creation to enjoy!
