N is for Nonsense

Ordinary Lives. From a 2 z 4 u & me

Now, for this week's installment of our a 2 z 4 u & me meme,
the letter N.

Sometimes, despite my best efforts, a lot of nonsense goes on inside my head. The kind of nonsense that steals my focus and my joy.

With the nonsense comes all those naysaying voices in my head, insisting there's no way I can write. No way I can teach. No way I can do anything good or anything right.

The nonsense and naysaying becomes a net that traps me and drags me down.

So this week I'm working hard to keep this verse before me...
We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ...
~2 Corinthians 10:5 NAS

Sometimes only Christ can deal with the nonsense in our heads.

So tell me, what are some verses that help you fight the nonsense when it attacks?

If you're joining us for the a 2 z 4 u & me meme by posting on your blog this week about the letter N, be sure to add your name and the link to that particular post in the linky gadget here.

  1. Great verse, Peej! You do have strong skills, so don't let the negative thoughts cripple you. (((hugs)))

I like 1 Cor 1:27 "But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty"

Whether I'm feeling weak physically or weak in a particular skill, I like to remember that God can still use it for His glory.

  3. I'm a fan of Philippians 4:6-7 - reminds me that I can't give up, as Satan wants me to - and that prayer is always the answer.

  4. I needed this verse, "taking captive every thought to the obedience of Christ." Man, I needed that. Thank you!!

  5. I've heard a saying:

When Satan reminds you of your past
    Remind him of his future!

I think the same can be done for the present!

  6. I was praying this morning about my own "nonsense" (though I didn't call it that at the time) and Psalm 27:1 came to mind. "The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?"

Thanks for another great post speaking to me.

I like Phil. 4:13 - "I can do everything through him who gives me strength."

  12. Another fabulous post, Patty! Sometimes just knowing that other people have to fight off the nonsense helps!
    I like Isa 26:3
"You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You."

  13. What did we use to do with those terrible little birdies on our shoulders? Do that to those nasty naysaying voices in your head.

    Love you!

  14. Rita, praying for peace for you. And you're right, Niki, knowing there are others helps a lot. =]

LoL, Cheryl. Those birdies are nice compared to the naysayers in my head. sigh. But I'm happy to report that they're silenced at the moment. =]

  18. Ah, Peej. Nonsense and naysayers are powerful monsters - but we are fighting on the right side! Love that 2 Cor verse. I like to read through Romans 8 again and again. It's like listening to Paul cheer us on :D
